Newark Club, Newark NJ

This wedding was Dec. 29th...and after the big wedding the weekend before, then Christmas....then prepping for this wedding....ahhhhh....that's how I felt when this was over.  It was a very busy two weeks!  The color scheme was red, purple, and platinum.  Everything went smoothly...except I forgot to ribbon one of the bridemaid's bouquets...opps...so back I drove to the hotel.  I always bring the ribbon with me...just in case ;)

Bridal Bouquet: Picassa Calla's, Purple Sweet Peas, White and Purple anemone, and fiddlehead fern.

Bridesmaids Bouquets:  White Roses and Brunia

Boutonnieres:  Callas and brunia, and roses with brunia

Centerpieces of purple sweet peas, brunia, purple anemones and black magic roses

And the bride wanted centerpieces that were affordable, but would take up volume in the room.  So we went with babies breath, which mimicked the snow falling outside, dressed up with brunia and sweet peas...I didn't get the best pictures here...lighting is off...need to take class to learn to use camera!

The Stone House, Sterling Ridge NJ

I know I am getting better using my camera when I take a look at these pictures.   I am finally learning how to adjust the iso setting according to the lighting in the room, and even though it's not something difficult to do I am still happy I am getting the hang of it!

This wedding was fun all around.  The Bride was fun to talk to and work with and so was her mom!  I knew we would get along well when we first met and her mom was wearing a leopard print scarf...and really that became the inspiration for the decor of the wedding.  So how do you take the idea of red orange and leopard print and make it classy....take note and view this most dramatic bouquet....

Now if I told someone I was using black magic roses, brownie cymbidium orchids, leopard ribbon, peacock feathers, and peasant feathers they might think....whoa, this is going to be way over the top.  But wow, this just came out beautifully.

One slight problem....I bought the peasant feathers from one of my suppliers in the city.  The bottom of the stem was wrapped in a black tape.  I had no idea that when black ribbon got wet it would turn into purple stains on the hands of any one who held the bouquet.   I can't even imagine how I would have prepared for this...it didn't even cross my mind to check it.  The black tape was exactly the same material as my green tape I use on boutonnieres and that doesn't bleed.  The photographer noticed it before any major damage was done, and had black tape to tape around the already present black tape.  I really felt terrible though....

The bridesmaids carried bouquets of mokara orchids...

This wedding was also the debut of my Chuppah.  After much online research my dad helped me build this.    I'm already using it for two other events.  One in which the birch branches will also be visible and one where the entire thing will be draped in white fabric.

The original idea was to just have white dendrobium orchids dripping from the Chuppah...to keep it simple for the ceremony and bring in the natural look of the venue, but the consensus was it looked a little boring, so I used the extra orange mokara orchids to bring a little more life to it.

The kiddish (the table in the center), was covered by a blanket knitted by the grooms late grandmother...very sweet.

The brides something old was a punch recipe her mom carries around with her...the first ingredient is southern comfort...I need to make this for my next party!

As I set up the centerpieces one of the wait staff pointed out that the mokara orchids looked like fall leaves.   The Stone House is one of my favorite venues and the color scheme for this wedding fit in so nicely.  There were three centerpieces, trees with candles and mokara orchids, trumpet vases with mokara orchid arrangements on top, and table level arrangements with roses, chocolate thai leaves, and brownie cymbidium orchids.

How cute is this....I really wanted to get a picture of this...and right after I heard the click my battery died...nice!

The Palace at Somerset Park

Finally! My Mac is up and working again, my photos are all intact, and I can get back to posting the last of my weddings from 2011.

I literally lost blood for this wedding.

Right now I do all my work in a half finished basement. I've rigged some lighting to help me along, but it is still on the dark side over the sink. As I was cutting the flowers so they could condition..which is just a fancy way of saying putting them in water for at least 24 hrs before I start working with them..(and I will say I was rushing) I quickly snipped with the clippers.....and sliced off 1/2 of the pad of my pointer finger on my right hand (I know....cringe). Even now I'm not sure why that finger wasn't on the clippers. Before I brought my hand up out of the water I knew it was bad...It would have be funny I think if anyone was watching me..I was holding my finger wandering kind of spinning around trying to figure out what to do. The closest thing to me was a box of kleenex so I grabbed a bunch. Luckily as I was coming up the stairs my husband came home...we called his mom...who is a nurse, and she came over and fixed me up so I could keep working. That was 4 months ago...I have a shiny circle on the pad of my finger...no finger print there anymore...and it still hurts!
And I still made all the bouquets and such...just needed my husband to help me with the short centerpieces which were submerged roses strung on wire.

So the main focus of this wedding were black magic roses...they seriously are so rich they look like velvet. The brides bouquet had black magic roses and black calla lilies and the groom had a boutonniere of a single calla, black magic rose and steel grass. Pictured below with the bouquet is the mother's corsage.

The bridesmaids carried bouquets of black magic roses and the groomsmen had a single stem of black magic rose.

Jayd Gardina was the photographer for this wedding and I am dying to see the photo's she took! As soon as I have them I will post!

There were two types of centerpieces for the reception. And at our initial meeting as the bride was describing what she wanted I said "Like Beauty and the Beast?" and the answer was yes. So here is my take on the magic rose from beauty and the beast. I used a little trick to keep it submerged...otherwise it would just float to the top...the secret..it's called a pin frog.

I love this picture of them all lined up and ready to go...the staff was still fixing the table arrangements.

The short centerpieces were roses strung on wire, which was then wrapped around the inside of a 10in fishbowl vase.
