This blog will still exist...and all the pretty flowers, but all of my new posts will be on <a href="http://trfloraldesign.blogspot.com/">trfloraldesign.blogspot.com</a> I'm still working on the layout of the new blog (so please forgive my appearance) and it will still be awhile before I have a new website....I keep taking deep breaths and thinking it will get done...slowly but surely ;). My email is still bridalbouquetdesign@gmail.com if you need to reach me and talk flowers.Tracey Reynoldshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15159840213969816161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239107904296135974.post-17779755968022395522013-09-28T08:21:00.001-07:002013-09-28T08:21:04.664-07:00Elegant Bridal Productions Wedding Show, Short Hills NJI'm still working out the issues with my external hard drive and trying to get it to make nice with my new mac. My iphoto is on there and so until I get the problem straightened out I can't post my pictures from all the September weddings. In the meantime I'll be at the Short Hills Hilton tomorrow for an Elegant Productions Bridal Show. If you are in the area why not stop by! <br />

This was my only free weekend in September so of course I had to do something! Next Sunday I'm up and running again with my 3 October weddings. Tracey Reynoldshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15159840213969816161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239107904296135974.post-92079752111085066772013-09-23T11:30:00.001-07:002013-10-02T09:42:50.741-07:00Whew! September has been a busy month and every bride had amazing weather..in my book it's the best month to get married! I had 4 weddings and a my little Kenzie girl turned four. In the same weekend I had a wedding on Friday and a Hello Kitty Party on Sunday! No wedding this weekend, but I am doing two wedding shows ( I'll post details later today).<br />
<br />
A few things to update you on....I finally got a new computer so it's taking me a little time to set it up, organize things, get it to recognize my external hard drive so I can post my pictures from these past weddings. (I plan to spend tomorrow morning on the phone with Apple Care) I'm in the process of updating my website and blog and will be transitioning to a new name, Tracey Reynolds Floral Design..my focus will still be weddings but it was pointed out to me more than a few times that my name could indicate that all I do is bouquets...which is sooo not true! So I've decided why not use my name. I'll let you know where to find me once I do! I love the weddings I did for September and I should have them up by the weekend! <br />

Yes, that is the answer to your question. If you saw my post below, and that my daughter was born on June 28th, and this wedding was July 12th...and your question being "Is she crazy?!", the answer is yes. I booked this wedding (before I was pregnant) through a wonderful wedding planner, whom I've worked with before, Christina Whitehurst and <a href="http://www.cmwevents.com/">here is a link to her </a>site. <br />
<br />
The couple was from Norway and getting married at the Norwegian Seaman's Church in NYC. Since it was a smaller event I figured, of course I can handle it. And with the help of my husband, and my moby wrap (this crazy long piece of fabric that you origami around yourself and stuff the baby in...sounds terrible, but babies love it!) it went off without a hitch. <br />
<br />
The bride and groom brought their photographer with them from Norway...I love this cute and quirky shot she took of them. <br />

<br />
Boutonnieres: We were going to do the garden roses, but with the heat I made a back up of white calla, which are sturdier, and what they decided to go with.<br />

<br />
Centerpieces: In the brides words "overflowing" with white hydrangea, on the table were 20 votive candles that were to be laid out on the table in an unorganized manner. I'm hoping the Norwegian photographer got a shot of these all set up. <br />

<br />
I do have an event in early August, but it's only bouquets....so I am getting a little break..and July is always a slow month for me. Probably because no one wants to be wearing a wedding dress in this heat, and everyone is enjoying the start of the summer. Starting August 25th though it will be go, go, go, with a wedding almost every weekend until November 17th. <br />

I'm slowly coming out of the fog that is first few weeks of mommy-hood (she'll be 3 weeks old on Friday!). I want to thank all the brides I am working with in the Fall for your un-ending patience and understanding as I've been a bit of a turtle on checking and answering my emails....what can I say, I'm in love. <br />

<br />
I started working with this bride more than a year ago and from the start she had the vision of fruit in the centerpieces with a bright pink and bright green color scheme. Limes and apples....so after some experimentation on how to get the lime slices to stay in place on the sides of the centerpieces I figured it all out.<br />

<br />
So there'll be no stories here...just the basics! <br />
<br />
The colors were yellow, green, and light pink..which I wished was more on the peachy side, but flowers are nature and their exact color can't always be controlled...I could have used regular peach roses, but the bride was clear that she didn't want too many regular roses, so I had to make the decision between peach regular roses, or the light pink spray roses which have a softer feel to them...the boutonnieres were yellow spray roses..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z0022JzBhuM/UcxZwtUTwiI/AAAAAAAACXI/COM_GnABy04/s1600/IMG_0989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z0022JzBhuM/UcxZwtUTwiI/AAAAAAAACXI/COM_GnABy04/s640/IMG_0989.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Boutonniere of yellow calla and pink spray roses for the groom and corsages of calla, yellow cymbidium orchids, and pink spray roses for the mothers and grandmothers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w0Qy5EPY5w4/UcxZuITssaI/AAAAAAAACWs/exrBpZFEzsk/s1600/IMG_0992.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w0Qy5EPY5w4/UcxZuITssaI/AAAAAAAACWs/exrBpZFEzsk/s640/IMG_0992.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For the ceremony two very large arrangements of white hydrangea, yellow peonies (which my camera does no justice to the color of at all....these were amazing), super green roses, white roses, yellow and pink spray roses and green ruscus.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XY5-0rwx1hk/UcxZt-oRa6I/AAAAAAAACWo/eb_MPq4_K1o/s1600/IMG_0994.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XY5-0rwx1hk/UcxZt-oRa6I/AAAAAAAACWo/eb_MPq4_K1o/s640/IMG_0994.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c1WNCKW_khw/UcxZvmhrAWI/AAAAAAAACW4/AZzS2Ro00K4/s1600/IMG_0995.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c1WNCKW_khw/UcxZvmhrAWI/AAAAAAAACW4/AZzS2Ro00K4/s640/IMG_0995.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The bride carried a bouquet of white peonies, white roses, pink and yellow spray roses...and just a note to brides...if you want you bouquet to be perfectly round you should mention that to your florist, have it in the contract, as some flowers lend better to that shape than others. My bride was unhappy that her bouquet wasn't perfectly round...spray roses grow on one stem at different lengths so they give more texture to a bouquet...there is no way to have them all the same length. I remade her bouquet, and all the bridesmaids bouquets, on site and did my best to get them to be perfectly round, but I still don't think she was happy with it. These pictures here are all the before pictures..I didn't have a chance to take pictures of the remade bouquets. <br />
<br />
If this was something I had known before hand I would have suggested different flowers and would have made the bouquet exactly as she wanted...my priority is always creating the designs as the bride sees them..so speak up and let your florist know exactly what you like, it will be appreciated!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Pew Bows: Yellow peonies, pink spray roses, yellow calla, and green ruscus...so strange that the yellow peonies came out washed out in these photos....they were so vibrant in person.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Reception Centerpieces: I've done different variations of these....and they are so popular because you get a lot of bang for the buck....a large centerpiece without the huge price tag a large centerpiece usually has...not to say they are "cheap", but they are when you compare them to other types of large centerpieces.<br />
<br />
White dendrobium orchids, white hydrangea, curly willow branches<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gWfwr6v1_OA/UcxZ55H7pTI/AAAAAAAACYU/QhOI3Tz5VVA/s1600/IMG_1073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gWfwr6v1_OA/UcxZ55H7pTI/AAAAAAAACYU/QhOI3Tz5VVA/s640/IMG_1073.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
I just bought these lighted bases (below), and they can be rented as can all the vases, and usually this is what I do with large centerpieces....imagine your guests trying to lug this or the centerpiece above out of the room at the end of the night! So if that is a priority for you, that your guests can take home the centerpieces this might not be the option for you. But price wise submerged flowers are more affordable.<br />
<br />
So these white dendrobium orchids are so bright because there is an LED light under the vase lighting it up from below.<br />

<br />
You'll see here that the bride and groom actually had two ceremonies...one was a Zorastrian ceremony...one of the oldest monothiestic religions in the world originating in was is modern day Iran. And a Christian ceremony. I didn't include the flowers for the Zorastrian ceremony on my blog...I just ran out of time and didn't get pictures of them. I must admit though I outsourced on the garlands. I can make simple ones, but the grooms mother wanted something a little fancier that I was capable of making. She sent me a few pictures...and funny enough the place that the pictures were from is 10 minutes from my house...so I hired them...<a href="http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=vivek+flowers+edison+nj&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8">Vivek Flowers</a>. And now I will order all my garlands from them! I did a wedding at this location back in October of 2012, and while I was working a bride and her family were checking out the venue...I gave her my card and that's how I ended up back at Windows on the Water. This venue is beautiful and the staff there is professional and fantastic to work with. </div>

In fact when the venue revamped their website they included the wedding I designed the flowers for as one of the featured weddings of 2012...<a href="http://www.windowsonthewaternj.com/wedAlbumn-15/wedding-venue-photo-gallery_15.html">take a look!</a></div>

<br />
<br />
There was debate about if we should make the centerpieces in square boxes or rectangular...I'm glad the final decision was the rectangular boxes...and they were perfect on the table runners that the bride provided...the table numbers were also a DIY endevor taken on by the bride. She had the most amazing run of the day spreadsheet that she provided. She plans events for a living, and it clearly showed in how relaxed she was on the day of the wedding and how smoothly everything went. <br />
Crazily enough there was an unfinished bridal gown she was to wear...it never got finished...the day of the wedding...day of...her bridesmaids ran to David's Bridal picked out 3 dresses...she tried them on about 3 hrs before the ceremony and made her choice. And through all this...completely relaxed! I loved it!<br />
<br />
There were 4 different color peonies, each centerpiece focused on one color (yellow, coral, light pink, dark pink).....my favorite, the yellow. The blooms were huge! The unifying elements in each were the mint, garden roses, succulents, and babies breath.<br />

It was a Match.com union and both families couldn't be happier for them. They chose the Rosewood in Edison, NJ for the ceremony and reception. <br />
<br />
My Mother-In-Law, not wanting to stress her pregnant daughter-in-law...yes, that would be me...right now I am counting the days with my due date fast approaching (July 3rd). I have had several discussions with baby that she must, under all circumstances stay put until June 16th...since I have an event on the 15th! Any way....my Mother-in-Law was just going to use the fake arrangements the site would provide, but I just couldn't allow it...especially when it was the start of peony season....her color was red....and we could use the most perfect red charm peonies. Nothing too fancy, but something just enough.<br />
<br />
The bride carried a bouquet of white spray roses, red and white tulips, red charm peonies, and black magic roses.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pEnO95vmLSs/UbhySZtJaVI/AAAAAAAACTc/sjG5hR0y1zw/s1600/IMG_0526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pEnO95vmLSs/UbhySZtJaVI/AAAAAAAACTc/sjG5hR0y1zw/s640/IMG_0526.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
The bridesmaids carried a simple bouquet of red charm peonies...simple...but peonies are so amazing when in full bloom they can handle it on their own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GG3H6q7wIfQ/UbhySjtXjMI/AAAAAAAACTg/UnrLze1iMeo/s1600/IMG_0536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GG3H6q7wIfQ/UbhySjtXjMI/AAAAAAAACTg/UnrLze1iMeo/s640/IMG_0536.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
<br />
And the centerpieces mirrored the brides bouquet....<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm finally getting to posting the most recent weddings, starting with this one from April 28th at the <a href="http://www.glenfoerd.org/">Glen Foerd Mansion in Philadelphia.</a> This is such a beautiful spot on the Delaware River and usually I don't travel this far south for events, but of course I always make exceptions, and honestly would probably go anywhere! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In this case the bride and I met at a bridal show in Central Jersey, where she is from, but she hadn't yet found quite the right reception space for her very creatively themed wedding. It was a mix of Midsummer Nights Dream and Mardi Gras. There were even masks for the guests to wear, which she originally wanted included in the centerpieces. She ended up with the masks on the escort card table, it really looked festive. Right off the bat her guests knew this was not going to be your ordinary run of the mill wedding.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If ever there was a DIY bride Irina was it. She glued ribbon, that matched the table clothes she found, to each and every votive candle, wine bottles with table numbers and peacock feather, she had an abundance of little this and thats to be placed around the mansion...she was a very busy girl in the days leading up to the wedding and she was so committed to getting the right look for the day. (I told her with her attention to detail she should become a wedding planner!) That's how she ended up at the Glen Foerd Mansion, as it was the only place that had the grounds to reflect the sprites and fairies of Midsummer Nights Dream, and the big ole historical mansion that could have been transplanted right out of the South, to lend to the Mardi Gras theme. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The floral designs were no exception, and were created to look a bit ethereal a bit mardi gras.... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Bridesmaids carried a bouquet of blue hydrangea, purple allium, fiddle head ferns, and blue delphinium. A nest of Spanish moss was wrapped around and meant to hang down from the bottom of the bouquet...think of the big southern trees dripping in Spanish moss. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mwaunnC0de4/UbcepbG9hWI/AAAAAAAACSI/0pGUB5QutCA/s1600/IMG_0496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mwaunnC0de4/UbcepbG9hWI/AAAAAAAACSI/0pGUB5QutCA/s640/IMG_0496.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Brides Bouquet was fun to make...Purple hydrangea, fiddle head ferns, bells of Ireland, Picasa calla lilies, kangaroo paw, green hypericum berries, and wildflowers....and you can't miss the peacock feathers!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Boutonnieres....wildflowers, fiddle head fern, Picasa callas, peacock feather, and hypericum berries. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9acErXDNhec/UbceqF4hAlI/AAAAAAAACSU/QsBq-8zT_8I/s1600/IMG_0489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9acErXDNhec/UbceqF4hAlI/AAAAAAAACSU/QsBq-8zT_8I/s640/IMG_0489.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Mansion doesn't have space inside for a reception, although the cocktail hr is held there, so there is a very sturdy atrium type tent connected to the building. The centerpieces were meant to be wild and connect to the gardens and views...although the day of the wedding was overcast, there is a very other worldly look to the pictures where you can see the foggy view. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The shorter centerpieces had a lantern in the center of a floral wreath of flowers, babies breath, delphinium, red charm peonies, wildflowers, sweet peas, allium, and hypericum berries. Our first versions of the centerpieces had roses and a much different array of flowers...to stay within budget, but the bride just couldn't part from her original vision...which didn't include a single rose, and so that's the course we took. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The taller centerpieces were white cherry blossom with dark purple hydrangea at the bottom. The bride found candle holders that swirled up around the centerpieces. </div>

<br /></div>
<div>
I really like this place..and not just because I'm on their site. Their tented area is beautiful and the place is really run by good people, especially Scott...and although I don't know his official title, he's the one to talk to.</div>

I'll have my latest event up next week!</div>

And to show you how the same flowers can create very different arrangements. A floral designer friend sent me some of the designers she likes to follow and it inspired me to create the arrangements below....these are the 'left over' flowers from the Great Gatsby photo shoot I posted about previously. Same flowers...much different results!</div>

Morristown NJA few years ago a bride came to me to discuss wedding flowers, and while she ended up doing the arrangements on her own the experience...all of it, the planning, the arranging, the juggling, helped lead her to discover her passion. Selina Howard was the bride and she in the midst of launching her wedding planning services catered directly to helping brides with any and all aspects of wedding planning, <a href="http://vaingloriousbrides.com/">Vainglorious Brides</a>. <br />
<br />
To orchestrate her launch she organized a photo shoot at <a href="http://idoidonj.blogspot.com/2010/03/welcome.html">I do...I do... Bridal Salon in Morristown NJ</a>. This is not your run of the mill, store stuffed to the brim with dresses in plastic. It's a elegant space with room to breath and take in the beauty of the dresses without all the clutter. I was so impressed with how organized and professional everything was, and that is most definitely due to Selina's talent and skill. <br />
<br />
Selina asked me to create a bouquet and floral centerpiece for the shoot, all based on a Great Gatsby Wedding theme...watch out English Garden..here come the 1920's. The glamour of the 20's (before it all crashed and burned!) makes it my favorite era for fashion and with the new movie I think there will be a resurgence in wedding glam....but with the elegant twist only the 20's could give. <br />
<br />
These are just my little photos...<br />
<br />
Bouquet: garden snow roses, patience garden roses, Sahara roses, white sweet pea, spray roses and very unique tulip with frayed edges. I also included some estate jewelry that I've picked up on my Saturday morning trips to estate sales...I love estate sales!<br />

One thing I do know, is that it is great way for me to organize my photos, let brides see past work, and help current brides understand visually what I am saying when I get excited about using this and that type of flower...<br />

It was a very busy two weeks! The color scheme was red, purple, and platinum. Everything went smoothly...except I forgot to ribbon one of the bridemaid's bouquets...opps...so back I drove to the hotel. I always bring the ribbon with me...just in case ;)<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">And when it all came together it really was a vision. While I've done other 30+ table events, this was the most demanding in what needed to be done on site. I knew this going in, so I hired the staff I needed, rented the vans..yes that's plural..vans, and went over the day time after time in my head and on paper to make sure nothing was overlooked. 26 boxes of flowers to unpack...17 of just hydrangea, which are individually wrapped (over 300 stems)...it took me 4 hrs! Thank goodness I recently bought this insane stem chopping device, it would literally take your hand off..it's like an old school paper cutter on steroids.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">You'll see all the flowers were white..white orchids, white roses, white stephanotis, white hydrangea, and white anemone....with the dark purple center ;)</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> An elaborately decorated Chuppah, which after much discussion with the bride I was able to convince her that the branch idea with the hydrangea would fit in perfectly with the rest of the designs...(the original plan was to cover the Chuppah with white fabric, but then there was the issue of having the fabric match what the drapers...(not Don and family...ha! Sorry about that) were using to drape the whole back wall of the reception room. I've used my Chuppah 4 times so far and this was the most weight...and the flowers across the front were seriously heavy...it's held...and I think the best it's looked. I am waiting on the professionals pics, I just couldn't get the lighting right. The bride expressed how important this was to her because it represents family and the life her and her husband will begin together, so that was my baby...it took over 2hrs to get it to look like this. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">With 12 bridesmaids the bride had plenty of eyes checking up on us to make sure everything was staying on track and looking perfect. She was a tough cookie and if she was unhappy she would have let me know, no doubt! </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Thanks to all my staff who worked before hand and on site to bring all of this together! </span>Tracey Reynoldshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15159840213969816161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239107904296135974.post-51510544909668805192012-10-16T18:17:00.000-07:002013-06-12T06:16:54.359-07:00Windows on the Water, Millstone Township NJ<br />
An English garden themed wedding....I can't wait to see the professionals pictures, especially since I wasn't able to get a picture of the bridal bouquet...I usually make a point to do it before I leave the house, but I figured since the ceremony and the reception were at the same location I'd have time on site to do it. The cafe latte dahlias in the bouquet were amazing, but of course I was caught up in all the things that needed to be done on site...so no bouquet picture...or picture of the pretty dahlia that the flower girl held. When I get the professional pictures I will most definitely post them. There was a bunch to do on site, but thanks to the help from my wonderful and willing assistant Leslie everything was done in plenty of time. <br />
<br />
The bride covered every little detail. She wanted her wedding to be fit for style me pretty and from the wine bottle table markers, to the individualized mason glass jars and swirly pink straws (with a message to take them to the bar for a special drink....which was an warm apple pie drink...with whiskey I think...oh it sounded perfect for the chilly cool that set into the air once the sun set.) <br />
<br />
<br />
I have a new favorite tool....zip ties. I helped a friend do a wedding down in Philadelpia. It was at the Penn Museum in the Chinese Antiquities section. There were 600 paper cranes that needed lights inserted into them...I can say I luckily only did about 15 of these (I was on flower arranging duty)..but while we were all working one of my friends other assistants was using zip ties to attach bamboo to a plant stand (there were wooden lanterns on top...it was beautiful). And he said they were his favorite thing so I bought some figuring I could use them instead of wire to attach branches to the Chuppah...It was sooooo much easier than using wire and I feel kind of silly for not thinking about using them before. I had to move the arrangements from the Chuppah to the entrance way to the reception room...it only took me about 10 minutes all thanks to the zip ties. I heart zip ties. <br />

<br />
As the guests took their seats they could enjoy a cup of warm apple cider, to be had in apples that had the centers scooped out and cinnamon stick stirrers...as I was dismantling the Chuppah one of the staff told me to help myself...I was freezing and I must have had 8 apple fulls in a row. It was that good. During the day it was nice a warm in the sun, but I felt bad for the bride. The ceremony began as the sun was setting and her dress had a cut out back and beautiful lace...I spoke to her later and she confessed that she was so cold she couldn't even cry! <br />
<br />
The reception card table had two cake stands with flowers to compliment the centerpieces. Here they are after I assembled them. There was also a large rectangular planter for the gift card table, but boo..I didn't get a picture of that either.<br />

I am obsessed with succulents after doing this wedding. I use 45 of them to complete all these looks and one of the best things about them is that all you need to do is give them a bed of soil afterwards and they will grow...sometimes they'll even be around for years. So you'll see in the base of the vase I provided a rock covering, with soil and bark so the guests could simply take out the little vase of flowers and let their succulents continue to grow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The bride also had one large succulent and 6 small succulents in her bouquet, along with garden roses, spray roses, brunia, cafe latte dahlia's, seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller. </div>

When first discussing ideas with the bride I came across an image online, that I maybe looked at for 2 seconds....then I couldn't find it again, but that was enough...I was inspired. I love how the driftwood looks across the top with the succulent and cymbidium orchid. For half I put the driftwood across the top, for the other half I had a dish with a floating candle and the driftwood was placed on the table next to the vase. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I created my test run for this idea for a wedding show a few weeks earlier and I was able to get little trios of potted succulents to use inside the vase. I ordered 22 more for this wedding only to have the supplier call me the day before the wedding to tell me he couldn't get them...really! Ugh, this is why I pick up all my flowers myself. In the flower district there are always alternatives. I was able to get more large succulents when I picked up the rest of my order. </div>

These cylinder vases drove me crazy.....when I first unpacked them at home they were filthly...so I had to wash them with soap and water....and they smelled like fish inside!? So weird....then when I took them out for the wedding they still didn't look clean so I cleaned them again with windex...so much work. I won't be buying vases from there anymore! </div>

My next event is October 13th....and it's going to be a beauty! I'm going to get the flower order together today and place it at the end of next week. It's going to be so beautiful and I am using the chuppah again...but this time it's not a chuppah....just an arbor for the ceremony. </div>

I am finally learning how to adjust the iso setting according to the lighting in the room, and even though it's not something difficult to do I am still happy I am getting the hang of it! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This wedding was fun all around. The Bride was fun to talk to and work with and so was her mom! I knew we would get along well when we first met and her mom was wearing a leopard print scarf...and really that became the inspiration for the decor of the wedding. So how do you take the idea of red orange and leopard print<i> and </i>make it classy....take note and view this most dramatic bouquet....<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6HiQnmS1PaE/UFc7k-aQEjI/AAAAAAAAB94/rv5InrwEVAo/s1600/IMG_8826.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6HiQnmS1PaE/UFc7k-aQEjI/AAAAAAAAB94/rv5InrwEVAo/s640/IMG_8826.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7ItvZPPrrfQ/UFc7qWvb6VI/AAAAAAAAB-I/A1Hd69ZGVFo/s1600/IMG_8828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7ItvZPPrrfQ/UFc7qWvb6VI/AAAAAAAAB-I/A1Hd69ZGVFo/s640/IMG_8828.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xI68fjZ2lzs/UFc7x5KaffI/AAAAAAAAB-c/ENuMoeGv3eI/s1600/IMG_8832.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xI68fjZ2lzs/UFc7x5KaffI/AAAAAAAAB-c/ENuMoeGv3eI/s640/IMG_8832.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now if I told someone I was using black magic roses, brownie cymbidium orchids, leopard ribbon, peacock feathers, and peasant feathers they might think....whoa, this is going to be way over the top. But wow, this just came out beautifully. <br />
<br />
One slight problem....I bought the peasant feathers from one of my suppliers in the city. The bottom of the stem was wrapped in a black tape. I had no idea that when black ribbon got wet it would turn into purple stains on the hands of any one who held the bouquet. I can't even imagine how I would have prepared for this...it didn't even cross my mind to check it. The black tape was exactly the same material as my green tape I use on boutonnieres and that doesn't bleed. The photographer noticed it before any major damage was done, and had black tape to tape around the already present black tape. I really felt terrible though....<br />
<br />
The bridesmaids carried bouquets of mokara orchids...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JJu2Z8yHjAA/UFc75ZaJ2UI/AAAAAAAAB-s/pRfsUAGpVr0/s1600/IMG_8838.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JJu2Z8yHjAA/UFc75ZaJ2UI/AAAAAAAAB-s/pRfsUAGpVr0/s640/IMG_8838.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This wedding was also the debut of my Chuppah. After much online research my dad helped me build this. I'm already using it for two other events. One in which the birch branches will also be visible and one where the entire thing will be draped in white fabric. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The original idea was to just have white dendrobium orchids dripping from the Chuppah...to keep it simple for the ceremony and bring in the natural look of the venue, but the consensus was it looked a little boring, so I used the extra orange mokara orchids to bring a little more life to it. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The kiddish (the table in the center), was covered by a blanket knitted by the grooms late grandmother...very sweet. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

The brides something old was a punch recipe her mom carries around with her...the first ingredient is southern comfort...I need to make this for my next party! <br />
<br />
As I set up the centerpieces one of the wait staff pointed out that the mokara orchids looked like fall leaves. <a href="http://www.stonehouseatstirlingridge.com/">The Stone House</a> is one of my favorite venues and the color scheme for this wedding fit in so nicely. There were three centerpieces, trees with candles and mokara orchids, trumpet vases with mokara orchid arrangements on top, and table level arrangements with roses, chocolate thai leaves, and brownie cymbidium orchids. <br />

<br />
The wedding was on Saturday, but it was a big production and I don't mean this in a bad way at all, I loved how everything turned out and more importantly so did the bride,...there was just alot that couldn't be done until we were on site. <br />
<br />
For the ceremony there were going to be chicken wire cones to hold the flowers for the 20 pew bows. And trees and columns....I had this beautiful vision and the bride was on board. Because I used my manzanita branch trees I had to rent a van, I made the reservation probably about 1 month before the wedding. I made the cones, one night the week before, after going to home depot to buy the chicken wire (I have a guy in there who honestly laughs at me when I tell him what I am trying to build and asking him where to find things...the last one was the components to build project chuppah...that will be in the next post!) After cutting all the wire I used a traffic cone to shape them, then I twisted the ends together so they would keep their shape. The next day my 4 year old son helped me filled them with moss as I attached the pew bow holders. From start to finish it probably took me 3 hrs to build these. <br />
<br />
Some of the pictures came out a little blurry and I hate that they just don't do the setting justice....this was so beautiful! <br />

In the winter I'll usually pick up my flowers 2 days before the event so they have time to open, in the summer I usually go one day before, but it also depends on the type of flowers. <br />
<br />
This event had lots of phalaenopsis orchids and garden roses, so I picked up the order Friday. I drove into NYC at 6am and after shopping for the odds and ends for this wedding and the other two events I was working on I was home at 11am. Then the next two hours were spent putting all the flowers in water. So I was 'finished' with this part of the day at 1pm. 8 hrs later I was back to work building the 20 pew bows, and 10 of the centerpieces. The other 10 used birdcages...so cool...and we were recycling the flowers from the pew bows to save money.<br />
<br />

<br />
5am Saturday, the day of the wedding I was up making boutonnieres, bouquets, and corsages. By 10:30 the van was packed and we were off to the church in NYC. 11:30am we arrived at the church, I walked a few blocks away to bring the bride her bouquet for pictures, then I was back to the church to set up. Here is what we did. <br />
2 sets of pillars to be set up. 2 pillars would hold centerpieces that would later be used at the reception and the two other pillars had the manzanita branch trees on them. The trees needed to be dresses with orchids and hanging vases with garden roses. At the base of these are two birdcages with small arrangements of roses and garden roses, with a white lantern. <br />
At the church the pew bows needed to be hung and the orchids and ivy added since this wouldn't travel well attached. At 1:30 we were finished. The ceremony was at 2, so just in time. <br />
<br />
The cocktail hr at The Terrace in the Park began at 6pm. It was about a 20 min drive. This is the trio of vases for the tables at the cocktail hr. The green 'vase' is actually an olive oil bottle...I love this olive oil and it doesn't hurt that I get to use the bottle again! The funky looking flower is a blushing bride brunia.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The ceremony ended at 3, but then there were the family photos....we didn't leave the church until about 3:45, and by the time we got to the reception site...ugh...their freight elevator was the slowest elevator on the face of the planet....soooooo sloooowww...and unless you wanted to walk up the 5 flights of stairs it was the only way up with all our stuff. By the time we had everything up it was 4:45. And then the big shock...the reception and the cocktail hr were in the same room! I knew the reception started at 7pm and that setting up the cocktail hr for 6pm wouldn't take too long...I'm thinking on the way there we will still have plenty of time to assemble the birdcages, which were being made from the pew bow flowers. Not only did we only have until 6 to set up, the maitre d informed us that no, we only had until 5:30 because that's when they let the guests up. So 45 min to make 10 centerpieces (the birdcages), set up the cocktail hr, and put all the finishing touches that I had planned in my head, like petals on the table and such. She asked me if I would be done by then and in my frantic state with the info I had just learned, I plainly said 'No' and went back to work. <br />
<br />
Of course we did finish, I always do...and this whole time when I say we, I mean me and my assistant (cough, husband). I didn't hire an assistant for the day because since this was a friends wedding and we were also invited I figured he'd be there to help....and the icing on the cake...it was also his birthday. I have a very, very, very supportive husband...I am a lucky gal....what guy would do all the grunt work, be ordered around by his wife, about how to deal with flowers non the less...again, I am a lucky gal. Normally for an event like this I would have hired at least 1 assistant, maybe two. <br />
<br />
I can't wait for the professionals pictures. These are all pictures I took, some the day of and some the day after the wedding, since the birdcages are now in my arsenal of cool things to rent to brides. I'm already planning on using them for an October wedding. <br />

These fans are from the bridal shower. We played a cute game where the maid of honor made a statement and we had to decide if Helen or Larry would have said it. We voted by holding up the fan. <br />

After the wedding was over my husband and I broke everything down and packed up. He enjoyed his birthday after all....and was so funny on the way home. He had brought a seltzer with him, but we didn't stop all day so it sat in the van. He tried drinking it on the way home...warm seltzer. He took a sip and started ranting about...aggghhhh warm seltzer...it's burning my throat....ugggh it's so warm...(he takes another sip)...uggghhh warm seltzer is terrible..it's burning...aggghhh...and so on for about 10 minutes. Then I had quiet the rest of the ride home. We got home at 1:30am.....The next day was clean up. Clean out the van, return the van, put my supplies away, clean up my mess in my studio (aka the basement), this all took about 4 hrs, then I could finally rest....ahhhhh. And get ready for the next weekends wedding! <br />

There is a great deal of pressure doing wedding flowers...really, it's a pretty important day. If the flowers aren't right most brides would be pretty upset. So I work hard to fulfill the vision that the bride and I have created. At a wedding show I feel like a contestant on Project Runway. I've just won immunity for the next week and I can do something a little different without having to worry about getting the auf wiedersehen from Heidi!<br />
<br />
And when coming up with the design for my table I already had a starting point. In two weeks I have a wedding that I am creating a centerpiece with succulents (which I am way obsessed with right now), flowers, and driftwood in a cylinder vase. I was testing out the centerpiece...figuring out construction and such...and then it grew from there. Maybe I went a little crazy, but I love how the table and all the elements turned out. <br />
<br />
I used mainly, sedum, dahlias, succulents, brunia, spray roses, roses, dusty miller, and seeded eucalyptus in these designs. <br />

I kept fighting with this ribbon...I have glue that will hold it..but we are in the midst of the final stages of the basement redo and my supplies are packed...every event I've done this summer I have to dig through the boxes to find what I need. I just didn't have the time to find the glue so I used double sided tape...which obviously does not work! <br />

Well, I am embarrassed no more. I finally updated it (all by myself...with a little help from wix.com) ...and now I am proud to have brides visit there as well! Take a look.... </span><br />

I wanted to use my manzanita branch trees, but do something a little more organic looking, and it was nice to just go into the flower market and pick what caught my eye...and what matched the mismatched table setting I had purchased to complete the look. I also created the bridal bouquet that I envision going with this garden wedding affair. Enjoy!<br />

This was the smaller table centerpiece...The Bridal Show had up lighting and it was difficult trying to take pictures..the lights were changing from pink, to blue, to purple, to yellow....you can see in the pictures below how it effected how the arrangement looks. <br />

I love looking for unique things and think at some point I'd love to do expand and have a prop shop to rent items out to brides from. It would be a justifiable excuse for my yard sale/estate sale addiction. I was at an estate sale the weekend before the show and picked up these intricate table clothes...I underlayed it with a yellow flower print that I picked up at a fabric store. <br />

The bouquet was patience garden roses, craspedia, brunia, star of Bethlehem, fuchsia spray roses and lambs ear. My next wedding is August 18th and there are birdcages, lamps, trees...it's going to be beautiful! <br />
